zweite konservatorische maßnahme (2008)
for cans, cords, glass plates, gear motors and light sensors
by serge baghdassarians & boris baltschun
two tin cans are attached to a cord with the help of a rubber band. the cord is strained around two winches in a horizontal line. one of the winches is driven by a gear motor. with the help of speed reduction the cans are transported very slowly. a glass plate is used as a surface for the cans. a light sensor reverses the direction of the motor - determined by the revolution of the motor axis and the lengh of the glass plate. the friction of the cans on the glass produces a spectrum of frequencies - from single pitches to multiphonics- interrupted by pauses of varying durations. the number of units used is dependent on the dimensions of the space.
